Last week, the first volunteer meeting took place to introduce the event, the volunteer working arrangements for summit days and to discuss the protocol for hosting high-level guests. Around 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the Summit, including state and government leaders from various member countries, who are assisted and supported by volunteers during their stay in Estonia. For example, speakers at the Summit include US High Representative Samantha Power and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
According to Kristel Konsa, the Coordination for Volunteers at the OGP Summit 2023, volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the Summit and in presenting Estonia to international guests. "As volunteers are the first contact with the guests, they create the initial impression and represent our country," explained Konsa.
In addition to hosting guests, volunteers also contribute to the smooth running of the programme. During the two days of the Summit, more than 50 discussions and workshops will take place in Telliskivi Creative City. In addition, various side events will be organised before and after the Summit.
"Volunteering at the OGP Summit offers an excellent opportunity to make new and exciting contacts with people you would otherwise be unlikely to meet. This experience is a real eye-opener and allows a glimpse into the organisation of international top-level events. Moreover, volunteers get to see the discussions and events held during the Summit, "said Konsa.
Call for volunteers is still open on the Summit website, including more information about the roles and responsibilities. Please notice that only Estonian residents can be admitted to this role. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an international excellence event and contribute to its success.
