A working group attached to the Government Office which is charged with the task of assessing monuments has recommended that all of the eight memorials be removed from public space.
The memorials and historical monuments are situated on the premises of Estonian Railways, the Estonian Transport Administration, the State Forest Management Centre and the Land Board in Jõhvi municipality and the towns of Narva-Jõesuu and Kohtla-Järve. Their removal will be organised by the agencies themselves.
A further 10 memorials and historical monuments under state ownership are on the working group’s list and are awaiting assessment.
